Ice out splake

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I catch the odd splake crappie fishing, but only after sitting still for a while.

Points near inflows - warmer water = baitfish - they'll be in shallow water and spook easily.

We have splake in my cottage lake with crappie, bass (LM and SM), pike and almost no perch to speak of. The main bait species are mud minnows and ciscos.

I caught a 4lb splake two weekends ago in about 6' of water fishing for crappie swimming a small shiner coloured buck-shot spoon with a 2" pink tube on it. Nice fight on my ultralight gear. :)

Never fished for splake in anything other than a splake lake. The odd perch to..o.k a lot of perch.
