Any Sault Ste Marie, steelhead fisherman out there?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

When I go up to visit my brother I always give it a try during the season....I usually fish by the hydro plant or dam or whatever that place is with the big fence  ..Careful though..some guy threw a mattress in there a few years ago so guys get thier lures stuck...then he goes in and collects all the lures and sells them back to you

That sounds like a Sault Ste. Marie scam for sure... I haven't been for a couple years but the rapids tend to yeild the most results. LSSU released and tagged 20,000 juveniles last year so in a couple years the stock in the St. Mary's river should be great.

good luck.

Ya I know that guy that scuba dives and gets all the lures, I didnt know about the mattress though, thanks for the heads up. I usually fish up by the dam to over the fence too but they are doing some construction there. They are apparently putting in a "fish elevator" to allow the fish to get past the power dam. So that place is off limits till they are done. I didnt know about LSSU stocking the river either, that will make a big difference! Thanks for the info! Anybody else with some more info on the river?

Ah my home town. I realy miss the rapids, none of this over the fence fishing. Ernest Hemmingway has called the Soo Rapids as the best Rainbow trout fishing in the world. I tend to agree. You need to be careful in the rapids though you do not want to be found face down at Bellvue Park or further down river.

All the best and good look I am sure they are running, they are there generally all year round anyway.
