Hey guys, I'm hoping to get some info on the Kingston area tributaries. I have to take my fiance and her mother there on Tuesday and thought it would be a good chance to get my yearly fix of Lake Ont. trout/salmon

The waters I know are all in the Cobourg/Port Hope area but I am hoping I don't have to go that far. Anyone care to share any info with me? I would really appreciate it. Not looking for your secret honey hole or anything, just a spot where I can get a line wet and have a decent shot at some nice fish. Please PM me if you like.

Also, if anyone from the board will be fishing the area Tuesday let me know and hopefully we can cross paths.

AFAIK, there are no Lake Ontario creeks or rivers really close to Kingston that host salmonids. The first one to the west is probably Cobourg Creek.

Cataraqui River, nope, Collins Creek nope, Millhaven Creek nope, Napanee River nope, Salmon River nope, Moira River nope, etc.

I may be very wrong on this and would like to be told I am wrong, but I think you are going to have to be an hour or so west of here to get into trout in the rivers (where allowed) or at the river/creek mouths.

The hydro plant in Bath is a pretty decent spot for browns this time of year. Caught one 11lbs myself there a couple years ago.
Also my buddy caught a 20 lb salmon at Kingston Mills so they are there.
The numbers in this area aren't as good as the tribs to the west but there are fish to be caught.

hate to say it doug... but half the creeks and spots you mentioned are excellent spots. head out bath rd and spot at alll the criks and work your way down to the hydro plant .. another good spot is take the glenora ferry to the county an goto wellington and cast of the pier.

ive got to agree with matt, there are lots of good fish in these tribs, millhaven was stacked up in the fall........good luck

I knew that some small number of stray chinooks did go up the Cataraqui to the bottom of Kingston Mills in the past, but thought they were pretty rare (and pretty skanky).

I had forgotten about the warm water discharge at Bath!

And thanks guys for adding to my knowledge about current conditions on those streams. Guess I am going to have to break out the waders, vest and noodle rods!

last salmon i ate from millhaven creek was DELICIOUS, not skanky in the least....

Probably a nice fresh fish.

The chinooks that I had heard about that were caught below Kingston Mills (a number of years ago) were all black as rubber boots and near death - like most chinooks in most water late in the season, of course.

I would be interested to know if any spawning activity has been observed in any of our local tributaries, either spring steelhead or fall browns/chinook?

the browns are up there chasing the rainbow eggs alot of the time (spring) in the fall you can even get nice lakers from shore

You're not far off Doug. It depends on what you expect. Sometimes fish are in the creeks, more often they aren't. The MNR would classify it as an incidental fishery since those creeks cannot spawn trout and are not stocked (the lake is) so anything that shows up wandered in from someplace else. The guys I've seen do well had time to watch the spots on a regular basis and access to private property. I've flogged the water off Hydro and Millhaven for years and came away fishless more often than not.....much more. Call me a snob but standing in the stink below Kingston Mills in October lining, snagging and tormenting dying salmon with all the other yahoos is not my idea of good fishing.

spring and fall have decent fishing in all the tribs and at the mouths of them .... troolling the shore also produces decent results. where else can you fish this time of year except for panfish?
