Looking for cottage rental (summer)

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Looking for cottage rental (summer)

Post by Doug »

For quite a number of years, my family have rented a cottage north of Kingston for a couple weeks each summer. Long story short, we would like to try another spot, with the following "MUST HAVES":

1. air conditioned

2. indoor plumbing

3. on or very close to fishable water

4. access to bike trails, as in MOUNTAIN BIKE.

5. within a two hour (MAX three hour) drive of Kingston

I don't care if it is a commercial operation or privately owned, either is suitable for us. And I am willing to pay good money for quality accommodation. So if anybody knows of a rental, please let me know. Probably two weeks in July.

I can provide references, of course. We are quiet, clean, non-smoking folks and pretty much mind our own business as a family. So a hippie type commune or "shared" accommodation is definitely OUT.

Thanks!

Doug

Doug, I just booked a cottage for a long weekend with http://www.cottagesunlimited.com

Not ideal really, but they have a lot of listings and were easy to deal with.

What I mean by not ideal is...... yes, it's very commercial. I would prefer to just give some cottage owner cash

Man, you just got me excited again for the trout opener! Going to be a fun weekend!

Doug,

McCulloch's Cottages on Wolfe Lake offer the creature comforts you desire (I'm with ya on that one  ) and are all either lakeside or within a minute's walk to the lake. You will find the village of Westport a few minutes drive away, and some nice nature areas also within a short distance. I'll PM you the ph# and contact names -- very nice people who are always quite accommodating. Reservations may be tough to get in July, though, but there are always cancellations at this time of the year when the deposit request letters go out.

Wolfe Lake will offer you SM and LM bass fishing, pike, walleye and of course perch & panfish.

Try Sunny Acres Resort and Marina right up in Seeley's Bay. 35-45 minutes from Kingston and they have air-conditioning in some of their "apartments." Fishing is very, very good in Cranberry Lake, Whitefish Lake, Dog Lake, etc.

Thanks for the ideas, and pm'ed suggestions! :D

I am guilty of using inexact language. When I talked about "bike trails" I was referring to trails where my youngest son can ride his mountain bike. None of us has a motorized ATV or dirt bike/etc.

And for that son, the trails are the "first" priority. Not so for his old man, I listed my number one priority first.

Please keep those ideas coming, this has been great!
