looking for a place to take my kids
I am not very familiar with the Ottawa area and want to take my 2 young kids out ice fishing. I am not looking for big fish I am looking for some pan fish. Something to keep them entertained. I have fished in the summer on the redeau by manotic and had good success but not sure what the ice fishing is like. I have a little hut and the auger I just need a place to go.Any suggestions.

If you dont mind driving a bit, Muskrat Lake near Cobden has excellent population of panfish to keep kids occupied. i believe it is called McFarlane Road access (By the vet) maybe someone can correct me on the name of the road).
It will take you to access there is a small bay a this location and you can catch a ton of perch in the bay. as you leave the bay you will get into deep water and there is lake trout. (Kids will lose interest with the lake trout but the perch in the bay will keep them occupied)
They can probably even look down the hole and see fish when they are in.
It has been a year since i fished this spot but it kept people occupied, the down side is the perch are grubby and even though there is nothing wrong with eating the grub (added protien) it provides and unpleasent site in the fillet.
good luck
