Hey all,

Looking to buy a Power Auger for the upcoming ice season.. Looking at something around 400$ that is fairly light. Doesnt have to cut holes lightning fast but not too slow either.

Which auger would you guys recommend?

A bit more than 400.00 but if you want something light, nightroller his auger 4 stroke is amazing weighs nothing compared to my 2hp Jiffy.

StrikeMaster Strike-Lite 4-Stroke Gas Powered Ice Auger is the one he has. If I change my Jiffy that's the one i'll get.

I have a Jiffy 8". Its only 1 season old. But I love it! I decided on the Jiffy as the parts. ie blades are easy to replace when the time comes. Make sure of that when you make your purchase.

I got my Jiffy Lightning 9" 2 years ago and love it. I cant speak to the Strike Master but I hear they are lighter so if weight is an issue you may want to look at them. I do know that the handles and auger is polymer on a lot of the Strike Master models to save on weight. The auger has tempered cutting blades attached to the bottom of the auger.

9'' jiffy 2hp , drilled a couple of thousand holes last year ,works like a charm

i got an 8inch 3hp jiffy.for the past 5 year.work great.

father as a 3hp.8 inch jiffy since 1975 still work great.

yes jiffy are bit hevyer..but there tuff no plastic on them to brake and sheaper to change blades.

Joco, had a Jiffy from 89' that fires up first crack. Had to get rid of it to make room for the new drill. Although loud, I did start it up a few times in the garage...just for good measures

The new High Torque 2hp Stealth STX Pro has a 3 year warranty on the blades for sharpening or replacement. It has 8 more pounds than the Strikemaster 4-stroke but has more power. I have only heard bad things reagarding strikemasters clutches.

The auger was something I did not want to go cheap on so Anthony decided to go top of the line. Might be worth spending the extra couple of bucks

I also have a Jiffy 3HP 8" that is 9yrs old and has cut thousands of holes!! ....can't beat it as far as a work horse auger goes!!!....As far as the weight factor, I don't see any issues....it goes on my ATV or sled and and far as carrying it around to drill holes, all the "wheaties" I've eaten in the past must have helped because I don't find it heavy at all

well my bud has a strikemaster light and drills well and he likes it now for me its got too many plastic parts on it,ive own a jiffey for over 20 years,two jiffys in this time spand and i sold the first one for $200.00 after 15 years of guideing with nothing wrong with it.

if light is what your after,its light for a reason??????plastic parts....

I have a 3hp Jiffy 10". Drilled MANY of holes usually through 30+" of ice, times where the base of the motor is touching the ice. Starts right away, doesn't take a ton of time to "warm up". Heavier, but much tougher. I'm assuming wieght shouldn't be an issue, as not many folks hike into spots carrying their gas auger!
