Mississippi Lake Sept 16 evening

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Mississippi Lake Sept 16 evening

Post by Andy_L »

hey guys...I went out last night for a few hours on the lake washing lures looking for Walleye. I tried everything, Cranks, stick baits, bottom bouncing grubs on a slow death hook. I tried slow, i tried fast...I couldn't scare up a walleye bite if my life depended on it :D

Smallies, however, were a totally different story  They hit EVERYTHING. They hit cranks down deep....sticks down a few feet...and the bottom bouncer. They're definitely on the feed now. I must have caught easily a dozen ranging from laughably small to a touch over 3 1/2 pounds. They all had fat lil bellies on them :)

Justed wanted to pass along the info on the smallie bite (and i wasn't even targetting them!!!)

Sorry i don't have pics...Mississippi walleye don't usually warrant needing to have the camera with you

That's funny!

Bobber and I were out fishing the other end of the lake!
We too had smallie action, but not large #'s.

No pics as nothing decent!
We figured the opposite and that the walleye's would have been on fire!

The walleyes will start their fall migration back to weed-lines and shallow flats that produced in the spring for a few weeks before moving deep and stacking up for the late fall pattern. This time of the year can be difficult when they are transitioning from summer to fall. Watch the steep breaks as they like to hold tight to them.

Hi Murman,

Welcome to F-H!

Must be an old map! Everymap I have seen of the lake clearly marks out all bay's, points etc.

Baitcasters sells a very good map of the lake. Squaw is identified on it.
Hope to see some good posts of fish caught there by you!

Happy fishing!

J
