Over the past 3 years, I am finding that trolling in May with a floating Rapala firetiger is very successful. Shallow bays are the best bet and I'm finding that it is not necessarily when the sun goes down, but when a shadow is cast on the bays from tree cover(obvious since low light conditions always help, but it is an "advance" in feeding time as compared to open water). Is anyone finding the same effect ? Jigging with a grub begins to work in June when the water gets warmer.
Also, the drop in the catch limit to 4 walleye was a good step in preserving(and increading) walleye stocks. It represents a 33% decrease in the amount of fish one can take home(sport license). I think it should have dropped to 2 walleye per license to increase the stocks more rapidly(you can kick me anytime !). I did find that there were many abusers this winter - some guys would have 10 holes drilled when the regulation is 2 per license. and this really made me feel uneasy.

That's outrageous..10 holes instead of the two allowed...has anyone else seen this kind of blatant defiance of the rules which really...when you think about it...only benefits us for years to come.
I remember years ago when Hay Bay (Bay of Quinte area) became close to being 'fished out' as it were.
The question that comes to mind (and this isn't directed at you personally by any means)...has anyone ever actually called the local enforcement office when they see this going on? What happened afterwards?
