I will be hiting to target american shad(alose) in end off may.

IN KAYAK.

will be fishing down the carillions dams about 2h frome ottawa.

if anyone want to join me down there and paddle a bit it should be a blast.

one hell off a fight they guive.

I haven't fished shad since I was a small boy in Pennsylvania. My uncle was a guide in Maryland (Earl Ashenfelter) we fished the Susquehanna below the Conowingo(SP?) Dam. We caught rock fish (stripers) there too.
Shad are good eating but lot's of bones, Slow baked in the oven was the prefered method to disolve the bones in the fish. Mom always had a piece of butter bread on the table if someone started to choke on a bone. Mom fried the roe up as well. Quite tasty as I recall.

the run run about 3 week long..usely mid may to first off june..can defer a bit.


was at that dam a couple years back...and you guys should see the size off fish there is at that dam..right close to it.

garpike in the 40inch plus tons off them same for huge drums. and carps.



fish just loves dams.

Bonjour Joco, you guys will be in my neck of the woods for once. Anyone needing more info about location, boat rentals on site, restaurant etc. can send me a pm. I go every year, and it is a ton of fun.

Also if anyone is interested we could organize a small get together at my restaurant/bar, as long as it is on a day we are not open(sun, mon, tues,or wed) my restaurant/bar is in hawkesbury, so it's on the way.

i have been working and went at that dam carillion dams.a couple time and at that boat lanch a couple time now.

a couple guys going down as a get together would be nice and cool.

something we dont fish often....new species for a lot off poepl and itc almost local...2h or lest is local for me. .

this is the very last part where its ontario and quebec..if you look carefully you will see on the the lower part would be ok...for ontario..permit..


but a bit farter..very close its quebec on both side so then.quebec permit only..

this is a part where i would carefully ask the mnr both side about that one.

You will need cinder blocks to keep anchored from moving around.

if you can go deap sea fishing in kayak..in some 5 foot waves.

just have to addapt to the place.


by the way..its safe to be in a kayak..(accident do happen)(same in boats)

there is a lot off place its safer to be in a kayak then in those little 12 or some 14 footer.

..i was at the world whitewater(sex level cup) yaking or could call it playboathing saturday under the brige in alymer..that was super..on some huge waves try that ina a aluminium boat.........splouk...

kayaks go down class 3 and 4 or some 5 rapids..thin aluminium boat..

there some reason why inuit people use kayaks to fish and hunt for the past 3000years... ,,and where they re its pretty extreme.

but do have to say there some boats that sink there every year,,i got coowrker that work at that dam..and they say to me everyyear there some that sink.. ...why anker...to mutch current to anker in some place..or sometime its wen they try to take the anker out and its stuck..etc.

I kind of figured since were fishing below the dam, the currents are going to be very strong. More time paddling then reeling in fish. You can rent boats on the Quebec and Ontario side right?? That's what were going to do I beleive
