Bait Ban by 2010 ??? Ice Fishing shut down by 2010 ???

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Bait Ban by 2010 ??? Ice Fishing shut down by 2010 ???

Post by lenb12 »

Hi Everyone :

I was talking to a bait shop owner west of Ottawa and he mentioned that the ministry in Onatrio is talking about banning minnows(and possibly anyhting organic) by 2010. He also mentioned that they might ban ice fishing too as well as shut down lakes for fishing. I don't mean to scare anyone because my hobby is fishing. Can anyone shed any light on these issues ?

SURELY you jest. This would do harm to the tourist business of which Canada relies upon. Creating fewer jobs, lowering incomes, decreasing tax revenues to the gov't. That would be suicide to the Bureaucrats. They never cut their own throat. Must be a bad rumor

I just don't see it happening. Live bait business in Ontario is in the millions, if not billions.

......and should also mention tourism dollars being brought to communities where people like to ice fish. Then theres all that dough being spent on toys, clothing and accessories related to the sport.

I really doubt this is true.

IF it is though, then you gotta love the logic of paying for licenses so that the MNR can have money to enforce these bans and keep us from fishing.  Why wouldn't I want to pay to have them keep me from fishing!?
