Went out on Pigeon Saturday. Could not have asked for a more perfect day, could not have asked for any worse fishing conditions.

Start Time 9 AM. Mainly Sunny, 3 degrees, not a hint of wind. Trolled from Gannon to the North end of Big Isle. Nothing. Cast a few spots on the way, nothing.

Raised a fish that followed 5 lures, wouldn't take any at the north end of Big.
Back towards the Marina near 5 PM started cast'n a Suick. 2 casts, a follow. 3 more casts had the only fish of the day in the boat. A small 40" (maybe, not sure didn't actually measure).



Just thought everyone would like to know.

Thanks for the report MM.....what was the depth of the water that you were casting and trolling in?

ya did better than me. went to balsam, cast, trolled , deep , shallow, shallow, deep and everything in between. didn't even move a single fish.
gonna be selling a lot of muskie tackle in the new year and buying a chess board, a really nice chess board

I was trolling from 12 to 30 feet (lures were 15-17 ft, 12-15 ft, and 5-9 ft), sticking in the 18-20 range trying to stay near hard bottom. I didn't spend much time in the mid to south end at all. I figured, fall colder water (48 at mid lake, 52-53 at the north end (deep water) ) fish should be relating to deep structure and/or mid lake structure. Boy was I wrong.

As soon as I started casting transition zones (weed to rock) that is were the first fish appeared. The fish I caught came out of 8 feet of water in thick weeks about a foot below the surface. I ran the suick just touching the tops of the weeds.

So looking back now and if I were to recommend for Pigeon, I would say its probably safe to assume they are still in the weeds. Why, I dont know, but thats where I had my luck.

I may try Lower Buckhorn next weekend or head up to Severn or Pointe Au Baril, not sure yet, it will be a last minute decision.

What kind of boat were you in? I was on pigeon that same day and only had two follows both on weed rock transitions. I actually thought I wasted too much time shallow. I did catch some real nice smallies though on some of the mid lake humps.

I was in a little 14' Lund with my father. Just enough to get around the lake. Talked to a few guys around Steamboat???? Mid way out Big Island. They had no luck with Musky, only smallies.

Also passed a couple guys trolling just outside Gannon (first thing) and they had no luck.

As soon as I got into the weeds, we saw action. 1 fish, 6 follows. Not bad for a few hours. I would rather have follows than nothing at all.

I was in a 17.5' lund with my girlfriend and as soon I started to get follows she wanted to go home, Go figure. We spent most of our time near big island. Those follows definately get the heart pumping.

If you were at the north end fishing just behind that Island off the North East corner, I think I was fishing right beside you, around 2:30/3.

Yeah that sounds about right did you notice us doing donuts in the boat because the girlfriend snagged bottom. Also what is that white jug you guys were fishing actually mark we didn't get close enough to see.

That marker is for that shoal that is out of the water about 3 feet, the one we were casting off. it comes up pretty quick. It goes from about 18 feet to 3 feet over a distance of about 10 feet.

Where you fishing bass or musky?

and yes, I saw the snag. haha.

I noticed the weeds were still really green in that area and there was a decent current running between the island. That was my logic. Rocks, green weeds, current, it seemed really good.
