Sept 8 -Slime Time
Well Sept 8th will be a day that won't soon fade from my memory. This was a day that had no plans of me being fishing, but with a few unexpected events I suddenly had some free time on my hands. What bettr way to spend it than chasin ole snaggle tooth.
Now my Muskie fishing adventures of late have been more frustrating than fruitful. Lost baits, dinged up prop a nice gash on two of my fingers. Now this stuff wouldnt usaually matter if you were catching a few fish, but that simply has not been the case. My last 5 trips out had resulted in nothing but two lazy butt follows, thats muskie fishing.
With a nice stiff breeze blowing I figured we would work some wind blown areas. Casted for a while, bucktails, spinnerbaits, cranks and jerks, nadda. All indications were another biteless day. Trolling out of a bay a notice a pile of seagulls on the water and wonder, why are they there?? I decided to go find out.
Trolled over to the area which consists of nice 15' flat with some points sticking out into deep water. Nothing being marked on the screen in the way of bait, but this is a good area and the wind is blowing acrosss the points. As I ease around the first point in 15' I turn to head back into deep water and my reel starts to scream. I pick up the rod and this feels like a BIG fish. My suspicions are confirmed when a mammoth head rises out of the wash and spites my bait out Could swore she stuck her tongue out aswell Since my bait was not fouled, i simply set it back in the holder and continued on, sulking of course. Not 30 seconds later, over 40', between two points it is screaming again. At first I am in shock. the old man says " AHHH, yer stuck" . No way am I stuck my baits only down 5' in 40'. I grab the rod and, no am not stuck, this is another big fish. A slight tug of war and a couple boat side runs and she is in the net. A BEAST
And a release shot
