I think smallies are, pound for pound, a greater fight. How 'bout y'all?

I caught what I thought was a monster lunker last weekend, I almost had to pull ou the harpoon gun, then when I got it to the boat, it was only about a pound - it was a smallie.

Smallmouth for sure, unless of course you have a hog bass with 15lbs of weeks wrapped several times around the line and fish....but then I guess that's not pound for pound then is it.

smallies all the way...BUT

Post by Big Jim »

Hey Dudes, there is no doubt that smallies are king, but there are days where you hit largmopuths that are absolutley on fire in shallow situations where they hit and fight just as hard or even harder 8)

My post on the St. Lawrence about 10 days or so back was one of those days...where the line...even braid feels like it is about to pop...not to often, but it does happen and I am happy it does...but day in day out, Smallies rule.

BIG JIM~~~~Quinte bound in the A.M. for two days...wally's and largies..doesn't get any better.

I think the smallmouths put up a better fight than the largemouth or the spotted bass.

Have to go with the majority on this one.
Nailed a 2 pounder this evening on a plastic crayfish and 1/4oz weedless jig.
Was at the west side of britannia beach on the end of the rock pier.
I thought it was a bungee cord stuck to the bottom for about 5 min!

Smallmouth are more challenging to boat, for sure, so they get my vote!

But I still enjoy the bull-dogging tugging and strong headshakes that a nice largemouth provides.

I have a soft spot for largies, so I hate to admit it. But smallies are complete and total brutes, even the little half-pounders.

Yep, Smallies all the way.

God, how many times have I felt that I finally broke the 5+ club when it just turned out to be another 2 lb smallie!!!

Although I too have a soft spot for largies, There is nothing like tangling with a bunch of voracious smallies!! Even the little guys can be a blast to catch (and trust me, I catch mostly little guys!! LOL)
