Hi everyone,
It's "Family fishing Weekend" this weekend and I'm taking my brother out. I have just caught the bug this past winter and I hope to pass it on to him. I want to go for some bass and hopefully get some action (to make it appealing for my bro). I'm thinking of either the Rideau or the Ottawa. My concern with the Rideau is that there's alot of boat traffic on the weekend. Anyways, if anyone has any suggestions then give me a shout.
I encourage everyone to try and take someone new fishing this weekend! Here's the website with the information on Family Fishing Weekend:

Cheers!

Hey Everyone,
Justed wanted to report on my little fishing trip with my brother over the weekend. Saturday was overcast and drizzling at times so I decided to stay close to home and we hit the Rideau River. It'd been a few weeks since my last visit to the Rideau so there was alot of change --- way more weeds! The rain started picking up but that was okay because we were prepared with rain jackets and rain pants.
We stopped at our first spot and it was at this time that we realized we forgot a camera... d'oh! Too bad because it was the first time my brother (Matt) had fished in a long time and I wanted to get him a nice bass. Matt remembered that he had a camera on his cell phone so at least we could get a shot should he get something. I set him up with a white tube jig (I made a few the night before using an information article I found on FH). Meanwhile I figured I'd try a top water lure. After a few casts Matt felt something that wasn't a weed and being so excited started reeling in as fast as he could... I was trying to tell him to slow it down since I knew he might pull that tube jig right out of his mouth. Well just before the fish was within reach of my net it got loose and splashed its way back to the depths. He was dissapointed but also excited! I told him that he should wait a few seconds before setting the hook with the texas-rigged jig to make sure the fish really had it all. Meanwhile I got a few spashes around my top water but nothing had hit it yet. Matt really liked seeing the fish jump at the lure though. I told him we'd do one more cast and then move on. He casted his tube and a few seconds later was yelling at me to get the net. He was much more calm this time -- determined to boat this fish! And boat it he did -- a nice 3 lbs largemouth! His first bass (of recent memory) and personal best! He held it up proudly as I snapped a few pictures with his cellphone (sorry no pics yet... haven't figured out how to get them off the darn phone). He released the fish and we continued. A few minutes later I got a 2.5lbs bucketmouth on a top water. After that things slowed down. We tried a few other places but didn't get anything else.
It was a great outing. Matt learned a few things (I think) and realized why I was interested in the sport. I realized that I had a lot to learn still... especially when it comes to fishing in heavy cover! I'm not really equipped to fish in heavy cover yet but as I read some of the FH reports and articles I'm starting to learn more about what I need to get.
That's all for now.
Cheers.

Way to go guys..I am sure you have created another fishing monster in your brother...No better thing than fishing with your brother...If mine wasn't such a computer geek I might take him out a few times as he lives up in the fishing lords territory...Sault St. Marie...what a waste of such a resourse...I will have to force him to come out with me in Aug. when I go up for a few days of fishing. Again good job on the fish.

No camera eh? I hope your bother doesn't pick up on that fishing habit.
But seriously, it's great to see new people getting into the sport and seeing them enjoy themselves as much as we all do. It truly is a great sport. Glad you all had fun.

Thanks for the replies guys!
Almontefisher, although I'm a computer geek by day I have discovered that fishing is a great activity to totally get away from my keyboard! So don't despair and get that brother of yours out on the water!
