Hard water anywhere?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Hard water anywhere?

Post by Doug »

Well here in Kingston we have open water as far as the eye can see, mercury north of freezing pretty well constantly, and only eleven days left in the bow season. Time to think about ice fishing, but.......

Is there ice anywhere? Nipissing? Temagami? Thunder Bay? Iqaluit?

The only ice I am seeing is in my glass.......

Anybody got ice? Or even a skim to get it started?

Last time I checked we had some ice. Just waiting for the colder weather to secure things.

I know 10 days ago Constance Lake on the west end of Ottawa was frozen all the way but I am not sure if any one has ventured out yet.

No sign of ice anywhere near Kingston but I'm sure if you drive far enough north you'll find some... For now i'm content with still being able to launch my boat :D

Thanks guys, sounds like the Ottawa area will have ice before us (if we get any at all - last year was pathetic).

Any news from Nipissing?

MNR in Timmins are warning people to stay away from ice for now!!! So if Timmins deosn't have good ice I doubt that Nipissing will.

The Rideau River at 416 highway was frozen all the way across late last week. Yesterday, it was open all of the way across. Looks like it is going to be a while yet. Certainly, not much likelihood of ice fishing in 2006.

Looking grim for sure..........

Last year on the 20th of February, a bitterly cold day, a buddy and I slogged in to a small lake near here, only to find that it still had open water after three or four days of minus thirty temperatures. I only knew of one very small lake that had good ice close to here all winter......and it is not known for its prolific fish population. :?

And coyote hunting is OK but I need a hard water fix! 8)

Thanks for the news, folks!

Doug,
There were lots of lakes with really good ice around k-town last year that have realy good fishing. Where do you usually fish around there?

The only hard water around Montreal is in my fridge. Heck, my bird bath isn't frozen over yet.
