I was wondering, if the diameter of 40lb test power pro is the same as 10lb test monofilament will it pull your lures down to the same depths on the same amount line let out. Hopefully this makes sense. I am trying to use power pro and keep within the lines of the precision trolling handbook.

Really, I don't know anything about fishing line, but I did take a fluid dynamics course in school.
Diameter is not the only variable. You also need to consider density.
Buoyancy force = volume of water displaced.
Sinking force = wieght of the line
(to sink, sinking force must be greater than buoyancy force)
Weight of the line = density x volume
Volume of line =density x [(diameter x 20 x pi x pi) x length]
Since you are comparing two types of line, use a length of 1 -- you can see that the weight of the line involves two variables -- diameter and density.
Hope that helps

sorry, I made a mistake:
Volume of line =density x [(diameter x 20 x pi x pi) x length]
should be
density x [diameter/2 x pi x pi) x length
I generally don't use fluid dynamics in day to day life
