Wondering if anyone has some tips they can share for targeting Pickerel on White Lake??

I've been fishing there for 20+ years, and have yet to catch one… But to be completely honest, I've never really targeted them before - I'm pretty clueless when it comes to that species. It kills me to see these guys from the states whom have never been to the lake before, come up for the weekend and catch a pair of 7 pounders.

I've been reading a lot of literature on them lately… but I can't help but wonder, do these tactics even apply to this lake??? Those of you who know the lake, know that the pickerel are somewhat of a rarity.

Anyway… not looking to steal anyone's secret spots, or anything - Although, I wouldn't object if anyone wanted to share a spot or two. Just trying to get some conversation going… Anyone here have any luck catching pickerel on White Lake?

Hi, a couple of years ago I was fishing White Lake for walleyes almost every weekend. There were 2 spots I was working, the first one is when you come out of 3 miles bay, just before you turn on the right on White lake, i would troll around there in about 10 to 18ft of water. The other spot I was working is around the Island, trolling a white big-O in about 15 to 25 feet of water. You have to remember that there is a slot for eye on White Lake. My initial response is if you really want walleye White lake is not the lake for you. If you are close to White lake however, I would suggest Callabogie as an excellent Walleye fisherie, if you have a boat there you can get right up to the Bouys bellow the Callabogie damn and you'll catch tons on jigs, minnows or cranks. But back to the original question, on white lake I have seen people spend 5 days targetting them and come back with 2 or 3 to show for it. Only Walleyes I ever caught were trolling fat raps from the main lake into Pickerel bay along the south shore up to the little island in the middle of the bay. Good luck and happy hunting.

No worries on the slot size... I'm strictly catch and release. I don't eat'em so there's no sense in keepin'em.

Eddie - you don't need to tell me that White Lake isn't the best place to go fishing for Walleye. My dad and I have been fishing there all our lives and haven't caught one yet... But that's good to know about Calabogie. I might have to take the old man there sometime!

Thanks for the tips, guys... I'll giver a try next time I'm up. Only a couple more weeks to go... Maybe this will be my year.
