early season bass fishing is always a blast... season is fast approachin and i though id start things off by askin

whats every1s fav tactic for bass at teh start of the season and how does it change throuought the year?

colour? size? type? presentation ect ect

i personally love a small spinner biat (white or yellow in the day black or blue at night) all year long but shallow cranks produce well at the start... as the summer drags on larder spinners and leaches become my fav.....

cant forget the ever powerful worm......

Usually I go locally for river smallies. But just like you, I usually start off with a small spinner bait, either white or black and yellow. I've also got this "lucky" trout spinner I've had since I was 12 years old that always seems to catch me some smallies when they're not biting hard. And some small cranks, one is a fire tiger pattern the other is a rebel crawfish imitation that works well too. I've even caught them on a spoon

This season I'd like to try out tubes and poppers, we'll see how it goes.

I go right into the slop with the frogs/plastics and stay there til September

Past couple of summers have found me using more plastics, but the TX-rigged (6") worm in particular. Largemouth seem to like this a lot, but smallies find it tempting too.

Nothing like surface lures for smallmouth on a quiet, still morning. The smash on a Torpedo or a Zara Spook is a real RUSH. (Even if I lose more fish to surface lures, it's still a thrill.)

Spinnerbaits are always a reliable go-to.

i fish smallies on the detroit river (fairly deep weeds with heavy current...) any sugestions... deep diving cranks and spinners slow rolled over the top have always been best

Dr. Jigs says; don't set the hook till you feel weight on the lure. (surface lures only). Now if I could only follow my own advice

Although I usually start workin an area with a spinnerbait to see what's out there, I generally switch to a tube for a slower presentation through weeds and obvious structure...

Actually that's pretty much my pattern year round for bass *L* I love pitchin tubes or similar type baits.

This year however I'm going to spend a lot more time on different presentatios that I don't usually use.

I have never had much luck with crankbaits, so I plan on really working them this year to figure those out, as well I plan to do a lot of flippin and pitchin into the heavy stuff with jig-n-pigs etc!!

Also got some nice floating worms that I'm going to be fishing with a lot for some top-water bites!!

Man I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!
