Seen very few posts for the Walleye opener on the Ottawa - I guess the bad weather is keeping you guys ashore. Went out yesterday to brave the wind, had great difficulty keeping stationary the anchor would not hold in the wind. Managed a few small non-keepers, a couple of nice small-mouth, the smallest pike I have ever seen and 2 cats in the 7-8lb range. The wind eventually beat us and we came in. Not the opener I have been wishing for but we weren't skunked!!!!

The wind coming across the water at Shirley's Bay was pretty fierce. I can imagine what it was like up at Braeside or Arnprior. Not the type of conditions for one guy to put a boat in by himself, or go out alone. Maybe next weekend...
I got a report from some of the folks up at the mouth of the Bonnechere at Castleford.... a few fish were caught on the rolling Ottawa.
Cheers, to all.

Didn't try too hard as I took my father (72 years old) and my son (7 years old) out yesterday. Yikes, the weather was nasty!! Wind and waves on the Rideau River like I have never seen. Got soaked and was pretty thankful to make it back to the boat launch. Trip home was in at least 3-4' rollers with whitecaps.
Saw some small pike caught and a nice Walleye, maybe 10 lbs. (on a stringer!).
Soggy.

I hit a small lake up the valley for brookies. Luckily the wind wasn't a factor because I was flyfishing from a float tube.

Murphys law the 2 crappiest day we have all spring would be opening weekend. No probs lads

Friday morning out of the Bonnechere, had lots of fun playing in the surf

. Getting to and from our "holes" was an adventure but, with some saftey and common sense, was well worth it. Most of the places I fish were some what sheltered from the gale force winds. No wall hangers boated but I won the camp derby with a 5.5lber. Many pike and walleyes caught all weekend, casting jerks to shallow rocks, drifting with jigs, and trolling of boards. Throw in a few OOS species and a few hefty cats and it was still a fine weekend of fishin, for the 8 lads at camp.
Every night ended with a superb fish fry, accompanied by a few cold ones and a hockey game. Still a great weekend even with the wicked weather. Here's hoping for a more favourable long weekend.
