Unknown fish (no pic)

Hi everyone,

Several of my friends and myself were fishing on the Rideau Canal tonight (for crappie) outside of Kingston and caught two fish that we could not identify. Unfourtunately, we don't have a camera. The cloest we could guess was that it was either a white bass or white perch. This was the closest species we could compare it to in the regulations booklet. Does anyone know if either fish is found in this area?

Thanks for the help,

JohnB

Hey John B,

Check out " Fish Identification" under tools on FH main menu, you'll probably see it there!

Hi Peppino,

Thanks for directing me to that site. It looks like it was a couple of white perch. Has anyone caught these fish in the same area? They sound like an invasive species.

Are the good to eat?

JohnB - they've been in that area, below the locks anyways, for many years. Sometimes there have been huge schools.

We caught these at lower brewers. I guess they are moving up the lock system, which isn't too surprising.

I agree with CCB

Colonel By Lake has a good population of them and they are just fine for eating.
