im new to carp fishing.... never targetet them befor. only cought one accidentaly but that was along time ago.... looking for something new... i dont have a boat and im from the windsor area... i know of lots of places that seem to hold them (gatta love when there roling on the top) any info on basic bait,setup,technique, for them would be great as well as how to hold and unhook them once there on shore... any advice would be great... thanks

I use a pickeral rig and corn. Sit and wait for a good tug. Can't hold em by the mouth. Unhook and hold under the belly.

glad to hear someone else is interested in carp fishing, big bass rich and a few others are interested too - search for carp.
a few tips, find a place whre they are, bait up the area regularly with corn. hook up with corn on a hair rig, no floating systems just an ounce weight 3 foot away from the hook. cast to where you have been baiting up with corn, take your clutch off hold on to your rod tight and away you go!

ps i dont know where windsor is but i will be back to the st lawrence and the rideau, in june, if you want to hook up for some lessons.

good info.... how do i rig a hair rig though?.... i wish i could come fishin but thats a lil to far from me... windsor is the southern tip f ontario rate next to detroit if not id be there

Corn is by far the best bait I have used for carp, make sure it is canned sweet corn though. Frozen corn boiled for a while makes good chum but not a good main bait. I have fun playing around with the different ways of making corn. My favourite is boiling the corn in strawberry Kool-Aid and adding lots of salt. This has been a very successful bait for both carp and even channel cats. Play around with different flavours or add other things to your corn, last year I put some vanilla extract in with my corn and it worked pretty well. Anything that gives it a strong, sweet smell will work great.
