Hi everyone,

What techniques would you suggest for walleye when ice fishing? Has anyone found one technique that has worked better than others.

Several of my friends and I are headed to Leisure Cottages next week for a few days. Should be fun.

I think the all-time best method for fishing for walleye is the tip-up rigged with minnows just off the bottom.

Watch for the action .... it usually happens quick and several rigs will get hit almost at the same time if a school is under you. Then you might not get another hit... but that is what ice fishing for walleyes is like.

Jigging Rapala, I changed the middle treble for a colored single with a treble stinger and a minnow, I put the single hook thru the eyes and the stinger on the tail. Or a Swedish pimple with a minnow head or do like the rapala.For the minnow head make sure you use your fingers and push all the guts towards the head and then you cut it in half, then all the guts will be hanging , not pretty but I think it helps.
And on a tip up either an ice spreader or a single hook on a fluorocarbon leader with a good size minnow hooked just behind the dorsal fin, and if minnow is very lively cut off half of the tail fins with scissors.
All the above at about a foot off bottom but keep dropping to bottom to stir things up.
