I am originally an Ontario 'boy' now living in Victoria British Columbia. S'been a number of years since I fished Pigeon (20+) and it's high time I get back there. I'm planning on booking a trip to Pigeon Lake/Buckhorn Lake this season and would appreciate any advice from this forum's experts on the best times of year to hit Pigeon.

I am a catch-and-release fisherman by nature, but admit I do like a shore lunch of Pickerel when I can get it.

I'm interested in Bass (smallies), Pickerel, and I'd like to dedicate some hours to Musky.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

Ward

For your fishing especially the smallie fishing I would recommend either right at bass opener or the first week in July or wait until the latter part or September or beginning of October. The smallie and walleye seem to spread out during the summer months.

Blaker is right with the times he suggested. All those fish have different opening times for the year and have their best bites close to those date. So if your looking at a chance to catch them all then his time suggestions will do. The walleye bite will be tougher anytime after opening though.

Good Luck

Hey Blaker and Smokey.

Thanks a bunch for your advice. I like the idea of maximizing my chances with all fish so it looks like the early fall may be the best bet.

I take it that the bass opening is quite a bit after the smallmouth??

Bass opening for Pigeon is the last Saturday in June and both largemouth and smallmouth open the same time. Should be June 24.
