Best Times to Fish Pigeon Lake

I am originally an Ontario 'boy' now living in Victoria British Columbia. S'been a number of years since I fished Pigeon (20+) and it's high time I get back there. I'm planning on booking a trip to Pigeon Lake/Buckhorn Lake this season and would appreciate any advice from this forum's experts on the best times of year to hit Pigeon.

I am a catch-and-release fisherman by nature, but admit I do like a shore lunch of Pickerel when I can get it.

I'm interested in Bass (smallies), Pickerel, and I'd like to dedicate some hours to Musky.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

Early September is about the best time.. weather is still warm, fishing is great and not as much cottage/summer boat traffic.

I usually go there in Oct and do very well,my bigger muskies do seem to come early am or after 4pm.

Hey Thanks a bunch guys!!

Narrowing down the time of year is my first priority and I'm lucky to have the flexibility to pick my time.

The walleye season opener is earlier than smallies right? If that's the case, and the openings are spread apart by more than a few weeks, I may be pushing closer to summer... so looks like September will get the nod.

This forum is great. I look forward to using it in the future and hope I can offer my two bits.

I fish the lake alot and trolling usually does pretty good in all seasons.

When bass season opens i like to throw out shiny spinnerbaits in black/white/and orange.

Sorry Bud, but the whole Kawarthas has changed a lot in the last 20 years. You are going to find a lot more boat traffic in prime time. Most of these boaters are interested in only one thing, THEMSELVES. Everyone seems to want to get from point A to B without regard for anyone else. The fishing has deteriorated to minimual Walleye and not an awful lot of anything else. Personal Water Craft and house boats seems to be the choice of transportation. The hay days of huge schools of walleye and great bass and muskie fishing are long gone. Now you seem to spend more time dogging jet skis. Sorry to sound so negative, but don't get your hopes to high.

The walleye fishing has died off a little in the past few years but the musky and bass are still really good.
There are more boats on the water but if you know where to go to get away from the traffic you'll be fine. September is a good time to be fishing here. I prefer early september because the lilly pad beds are still healthy (i took my holidays late september last year and a few of the big weed beds were dying and weren't holding as many fish as the should).

I'll shoot you a PM as well with some more info on what I know (which may or may not be useful).
