Quick and Easy - Portable Rod Holders

Boat forum, boat forum, my kingdom for a boat forum ...
Anyway. I have the pleasure of fishing with Furious and JignPig tomorrow at Quinte. Having checked with Furious, his boat is currently equipped with 4 rod holders. That means we either run 4 rods with 3 guys, or somebody holds onto 2 rods.
The solution:
I had picked up a couple of berkley rod holders (similar to these)
It comes with 2 bases. One for a surface mount and 1 for a side mount. The surface mounts are currently on my rod holder board in the VIP. The side mounts were sitting idle.
So, I am bringing along my small tool box containing my modest trolling accessories, including my planar boards, clips, and cannon balls.
So, I opened up the lid, drilled 4 pilot holes to match the mount, and then screwed them through the tool box into a wood backing. Done in less than 1/2 hour.

What I end up with is 2 portable rod holders.

I think the secret to its success will be the 2 x 10lb cannonballs. I will try to remember to snap a few pics in between all the giant walleyes we reel in tomorrow.

I expect you could try something similar with a tacklebox or something similar. And if lack of weight is an issue, you could either cram the box into a corner, or tie it down in the boat somehow. I may have to wedge the tackle box up to this as well, we'll see.
All of this to say, we now have our six rod holders and didn't have to drill any new holes in Furious' boat.
