OK I'm taking the new tow vehicle to Quinte Thursday morning .It's a jeep 2002 Grand Cherokee and I'm pulling my Legend V151 viper which is about 1/5 (1000 pounds) of my towing capacity .Curious the truck came with an integrated hitch and all the hookups but I'm not sure it has a towing package.Is there anyway I can check under the hood to determine if it has a transmission cooler .First long trip with this truck and would'nt mind knowing this .

Any help would be appreciated .

it should be infront of the engine radiator. it is a rectangular or square smaller version of the big one. It is for the transmission fluid to run through.

your Jeep will have no trouble at all towing that size boat

I did'nt think it was an issue having tried it out already.It towed like a dream.I Just wanted to know that if it had a class 3 hitch and light connections was this a towing package .

Bigger boat in the plans but don't let the wife know .

Get on your knees.....and look at the transmission....if you see one of these....you're good to go...if not...tie one to your radiator

Always carry a big cooler full of ice when towing a boat long distances hehehehe!!!

Something to think about...
Now I am not a mechanic nor do I know a lot about vehicle cooling systems, but I have been told by a mechanic friend that most new vehicles come with some sort of automatic transmission cooler, and that adding a extra cooler on some vehicles can cause more damage by freezing the transmission fluid during the winter months. He also mentioned that if you ask a shop to install one they will...because they make money selling and installing third party vendor items. So I think it is best to talk to your manufacture to find out what is needed on your vehicle and order dealer parts.

I don't know much about towing but have been researching some about my ford escape and supposedly they all come with a sufficient transmission cooler but the towing package adds an OIL cooler. It's the oil cooler that is required for increased towing capacity. Just a thought

Easiest thing to do is check your Radiator area for your Trani-cooler.
On your first pull with your boat, pay particular attention to the shifting patterns of your transmission .. if it is shifting too much between 3 to 4 perhaps you may want to reduce your speed and drop it into third gear or if our equipment can take it, speed up and keep it in 4th. "Hunting" - the transmission shifting back and forth between two gears - is the main source of heat buildup in a transmission so this should be avoided.
From your discription you sound like you should have no problems at all givin' the tow to your boat ... being that it so far under the limit of the truck.
