Any Newfoundlanders out there??
Any Newfoundlanders out there??
Heading out to NFLD in a couple of weeks Gros Morne, Corner Brook, Codroy area. Was there a couple of years ago but did'nt get a chance to do much fishing. We have a lot more time this time around. Mostly interested in Brook Trout or even the sea run. So anyone from that area that could steer me in the right direction? or tips.I prefer streams as I won't have a boat or canoe for the ponds/lakes , but as you can see we are covering most of the western part. I know there is lots of water and there is no way I,m gonna hit it all, just looking for some starting points.
Really want some more Quidi Vidi beer
Hopefully I won't be bringing back Moose meat if you catch what i mean

troutbum i got a few places for ya and they ain't far from Cornerbrook. it will be on your way up the highway to Gros Morne.
PM me for any questions or if you'd like to call instead. the directions are easier to verbally tell ya. these places aren't on the map and not on any "major" road.
i could literally have gotten a 5 gallon pail full of brookies when i was there.

Hey Troutbum...
Its been a while since I have been to the west coast of NF for some fishing... I'm from the east coast but did a lot of salmon fishing and trout fishing on the west coast in the past.. Humber R. , River of Ponds, Portland Creek, Robinsons etc etc.. God I miss those places!
So depending on exactly where you are heading.. I know Robinsons River has some good sea trout out near where the river runs into the bay... If you are heading up the north past Gros Morne.. Try Trout River, and again Portland Creek or River of Ponds..they are a good drive up though...
Now that I think of it.. you may need a salmon license to fish these rivers and being considered a non resident it may be a bit pricy to get a salmon license..(also not sure on the guide requirements on these licensed rivers for non residence either..) Also, you will have to check to make sure these rivers are open when you are there.. some close..even duiring the normal open season on acocunt of low/warm water levels...
There a loads of good ponds and lakes near Gros Morne for trout though.. Others may be able to help you with details on some real hot spots.. but I'm sure any spot you go to ..your bound to get a few trout for sure.. good ole double leaf spinner with a worm should do the trick fo rthe trout.. If you have a fly rod.. some small trout flies such as Silver Doctors or anything that resembles a small black fly will do.. for sea trout my most productive back home on any river has been a micky fin..
Good luck....Looking forward to your report when you get back!
As for the beer..Quidi Vidi is not bad.. Blue Star is my choice!
