At the cottage this weekend I picked up my old 12' tinnie, nobody has used her in 20yrs thought I should bring her home and make her more fishing friendly. Anyone modify a 12' tinnie thoughts or suggestions appreciated! I'd like to start by removing the rear bench kills my back and legs straddling that to drive.

You should coordinate your effort with SNAG, she's working on her 12 right now as well.
What did you have in mind FFF?

What about an extension handle for the tiller

You wont have to stradle the seat. I think the handles from Minn Kota may even fit

fishforfun, for the extension handle just use a piece of inch and a half abs pipe, cut a slot down the middle of the pipe about 8 inches long and slide it over the throttle handle, you can clamp it tight with a water clamp ,works great

Ok I have had a couple of days to think about it. On the victoria day weekend I borrowed my friends 12'. so I did a couple of things to make it more fishable. Bow mounted the electric, not sitting right here haven't made a bracket for my boat.
Put together some rod racks, again they don't fit this boat but you get the Idea
What I want to do is get rid of the rear bench and make a shelf type unit on one side to accomadate 6 or more of these plano boxes at a 15 to 20 deg angle put the rod racks above that.
Then cover the battery and gas tank and add 2 seats.

On the 12fter I had,I installed 2 seats, cut a lid in the center bench, used a hinge and clasp to open and close the lid, stored my trolling battery in there, also got a trailer for it.

Roughrider I'm looking for a small trailer. I want the 12' to get back to some spots I fished when younger, canoe access really but reached in a 12' with a little slugging!

A great project boat FFF.
All you need is some 1" x 1/8th aluminium strapping to make your own brackets. Either rivet, screw or bolt the bracket to the boat and build anything you like and attach it to the brackets.
I did this on the Battleship to give me some extra lockable storage and to get the battery out of sight. I made mine out of wood with a nice walnut stain and a urethane finish and viola!
Piece of cake for a guy like you.

Would removal of the back bench seat adversely impact the structural integrity of your 12 foot tinnie? I ain't no structural engineer - so its just a question.

I'm certainly no carpenter, so no worthy advice to give...
But I do have fond memories of my youngster years fishing in boats just like the one you are working on. Back then a flat, rock hard aluminum seat didn't seem to bother my back or butt. What the @#$*&! happened?!
Good luck with your project of love.

Make sure if there's any floatation foam under that seat that you replace it somehow within the boat.....my old man found a floater last yr on simcoe cuz they're tin tub had been modified and acted like an anchor when it overturned. (plus the guy wasn't wearing his LJ) boats shouldn't sink.
I use three LJ's when I hafta go in one of those....one on me, one for my back and one tied to my tackle bag!
Play safe in those tubs!!!!
