Early to Rise...
Friday morning will hit me hard...Heading to RUK's house tonight for an early departure tomorrow am....4am wake up. Off to the interior of Algonquin park for two 3 days and two nights of Portage, canoeing camping and fishin.
This will be my first experience in the park...ugh hope I don't have to engage in any bear or Sasquatch wrestlin!
Funny...Snag and I stopped in at RUK's place last night after a trip to Ed's..Thanks for everything ED!! RUK bought an new tent just for this occassion....well looks like he and I are gonna get up close and personal for a couple nights... TREV NO BEANS for this trip . Snag took one look at the tent and said..oh man good thing you aren't fat anymore Bacon....
Hopefully we'll have some great stories to tell when we get back..we have a camera along so be ready for some record breaking pics of trout.

What access point for the Park are you using?
Colour 18 when perfectly casted to an overhanging log and retrieved nice and slow... has given me some nice specks in the Park. Good Luck!

Bacon, don't worry about rutting moose, wrong time of the year. I would be more concerned about hungry bears. Have a good and safe trip.

then to ryan lake. I guess its less then 2 miles in.
this is my first trip to Ryan but the brother in law was there last spring and had some good luck.
I picked up some "super duper's" at Ed's the other day as someone told me they are the hot ticket. , if they don't produce I guess I will have to blame cough cough --bacon-- cough cough..
hopefully we will have great weather. And i promise to not make fun of Bacon and Ruk snuggling in that tent lol..

Bacon, you only need to run faster than your companions.

You'll have a great time, as long as the weather treats you right. I've been on two separate portage/camping trips in the park, and enjoyed them both very much. Mother Nature threw some wet weather at us the last time, but we made the best of it. I remember fighting the wind in our canoe on (Hogan?) lake. We made it 3 or 4 lakes in from Opeongo. Got to see moose on a couple of occasions, weasels, ravens, loons, mergansers, and wolf tracks along a lakeshore. One night spent was in a camp with surrounding saplings ripped apart and logs turned over. GULP. I didn't sleep much that night! (Remember, don't even keep toothpaste in your tent at night; the bears can sniff it out, and might show an interest.)

Stars were incredible on a clear night and plenty of amazing scenery by day.

Take loads of pics and have tons of fun.

Ryan lake is a good trip. Theres a bunch of campsites along the left side of the lake... about half way down (I think I said "lets go to the next one... 3 or 4 times ) we found a beauty campsite with nice rocks by the shore to get out on and an awesome firepit.
The first lake you cross (Crotch lk?) I'm pretty sure has pike in it... because we decided to troll a bit on the way... after we each got bit off We figured it probably wasn't specks. So keep those 'Super Duper's' in the box until you get to Ryan
There are splake in Ryan, so don't be surprised to catch a good one. After we got our first splake, I changed to brighter coloured lures and my success went up.

I thought of the bear situation and thought that we (I) should be as prepared as possible.

After some serious pondering, I decided on the best course of action:


I bought some honey scented Bacon Wipes for all of my camping friends.

I need as much of a head start as I can get.

And my camera is really quiet. So I should be able to get some really exceptional action shots of the bear as it gnaws on, umm, back Bacon.
