What do you do for a living????

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I am in the military. Infantry to be precise. I have been in since 1999 and have been deployed 3X to Afghanistan in the past few years. I have been posted to CFB Petawawa since Oct 99 and I love the area. It has been a awesome place to spend my time off fishing for Bass & Pike.

Cheers

Hi guys, I've been a fire fighter for the past 20 years and loving every minute of it. In my spare time I fish and fish again, also have this little hobby where I repair and clean fishing reels.

I have been a City of Ottawa employee for 20 plus years, most of that in a chemistry lab testing drinking water samples. I have also been an industrial by-law officer in later years. The past few years I have been collecting water samples from all rivers, streams, lakes and creeks in the Ottawa area. It is a great job I have 6 different boats and a canoe to choose from depending on the watershed I am working on. The past summer I also had the pleasure (nudge, nudge wink wink) of collecting samples from the beaches, rough job but somebody has to do it.

If anyone would have told me 25 to 30 yrs ago that I would still be working with agriculture I would have said they were crazy. I have now completed 25 years at Agriculture Canada in the Plant Research Department at the Experimental Farm here in Ottawa. Before that time I was raised on a fruit farm in southern Ontario from the time I was 9 years old until I left home at eighteen. That is where I required most of my knowledge and also a great respect for farmers and the hate for mother nature and how difficult it can be to try and make an honest living when you have so many elements against you. The problem was that when crops were good all the farmers had good crops and the prices and markets were flooded and your income was hardly worth the time it took to harvest the crops. When crops were bad due to inclimate weather the price was good but there wasn't enough crop to make it worth while. Such was life year after year and I begged for the day when I could get away from such a harsh way of living.
I had a few part time jobs working in the Niagara area working in greenhouses and then a short stint in greenhouse construction but nothing ever seemed to be concrete. I moved out to Jasper Alberta and worked two summers at Jasper Park Lodge as a groundskeeper in the late 70's were I met my wife who also was a student from Ottawa and going to University at the time putting herself through school. I would move back to Ontario during the winter and finally decided that I better get my act together and figure out what I wanted to do in life so decided to stay in Ottawa, got married and went back to College at Algonquin in the Horticulture and Landscaping course. Go figure! I completed the two year course and during that time was fortunately enough to do a co-op program here at the Experimental Farm and applied for a summer job and here I am after 25 years. I have had a great career and in 5 years I can pack it in and hopefully be able to fish and travel whenever the desire allows me to. Boy time sure does fly.

Been trying to think of a reason to get work to buy a digital recording pair or binoculars, guess being an old perve wasn't adequate enough for our purchasing dept.

I seem to recall, Iceman, that you also had the tough job of leading a group of college girls around the shorelines. I guess that's going back a little ways. Poor you.

I'm a fulltime babysitter for an adult daycare centre. I basically wipe bottoms and nose's of real needy people and have been known to change the shape of the clouds or the angle of the sun.

Just a plain 'ol General Manager of a mixed use commercial building. My 'job' allows me to go fishin' once in awhile as well

A la carte, I moonlight as a movie producer/director, racecar driver and Calvin Klein underwear model.....I'm serious!
