Great advice, thank you! Yeah, excited to get outside, even just for the fresh air. Enjoy, everyone! 8)

Well that was fun!
Landed this PB Ling, it is 28 inches long and beat my previous PB (2016) by an inch.

Knew I should have gone out yesterday!!

I’ve only ever pulled out dirty Burbs between 10-14” there. Must have been a great fight!! Nicely done

I got out on Shirley's Bay last Friday with my dad for the afternoon and primetime bite. The wind was blowing with some obscenely high gusts and it was quite cold. The wind also claimed one of my 5-gal buckets... Legend has it it's still rolling across the bay... However, the bite was good in terms of numbers come primetime. Fishing 11 fow. Almost as soon as I'd get a jigging spoon tipped with a minnow head down there would be a mark on my bait. Nothing bigger than 12-14 inches, all pretty tiny walleye and sauger, and one decent perch, but we had fun nonetheless.

Still gotta stay out for the burbot bite sometime, but don't have a shack.. Someday...

Yeah it was kinda funny because 5 buddies gathered around and were saying "doesn't look that big" knowing that I usually use really light rods, but luckily tonight i had my medium-heavy. So I kept saying "no, it's big, it's really big". They didn't believe me until we saw the big mouth come up under the hole!!! It was a great fight :-)

Was out yesterday on the bay. Ice is plenty thick 12-13" of solid black ice. SUVs were quite a ways out, and a couple of trucks as well. One note, right now it is glare black ice, it would be worth it to bring some cleats.

Also, any of my fellow Shirley's Bay fisherman want to support a dream? My wife and I would love to go salmon fishing with Jim WIlson!! This is my picture in the contest PLEASE click on the link and VOTE for me! Thanksssss!!!

CClad is right, over the years I've caught quite a few 3-5lb Ling at Shirleys. Near full moon always best, and I believe there will be a full moon in three days.

after tracking for a few years, I think the moon is worse for Ling, especially with low snow cover like we have now. I think it makes them breed more and feed less.

just my crazy opinion LOL.

That’s interesting…I thought I’d have a good shot at some tonight, but only caught walleye and perch tonight! Maybe you are right…

Yep, limited out on Walleye, couple perch, no Burbot. Not complaining… but was using burbot tactics :-)

went out tonight and tried several different spots/depths but had no luck.

I lived up with a bun of the permashelters at around 10-12' but couldn't mark or attract anything...then went more shallow... drilled holes and fished all the way down to 8'

no marks
no fish

to the guys having success.. are you guys going deeper than the majority of shelters out there?

Im not asking for spots.. just some depth advice.
