and kingston mike. do you pole in your canoe.?
kingston-Mike wrote: I can't say that I've poled yet

Where I grew up on the Susquehanna everyone poled a canoe. You'd be amased at how fast a good man or woman on a pole can make a canoe go.

not all canoe is good to pole around some better then others.

poling canoe..is very effective...you can go where no kayak or boat can go

wit a poling canoe...some even padle wit there pole its slower but hey its no race.

i did try a few time in my old wood canoe the cottage a few years back..but i have not mutch creek or shalow to do it more often.

I've been yak fishing for 15 years or so, just using a standard sit-inside recreational boat (Perception Caspia) with a detachable rod holder for trolling. I find it easier to handle, paddle and position than my canoe, which I rarely use any more. I find the yak holds all the gear you really need, including a backup rod & reel, tools, lures and even bait.
If you like quiet, out-of-the-way, private fishing holes, a paddle craft beats a motorboat all to hell.

actulay a bit more easy on a lot off kayaks..becasue a lot off them are made frome poly stuff. so you can go right true the hull wiout going into water at all.

most canoes...fiberglace or wod etc you have to go beside the canoe to put the tranducer in water.

not the kayak at least for a lot off them...just some gel or cilicon on the botom off the kayak and put the ducer in it and there you go.

:D I own 2 canoes. A 17' aluminum frieghter and a 16' sportspal. I have caught almost as many nickels from the sportspal as I have from my 16' lund. They get you into some skinny water and back areas. But the older I get the more I like my comfort. 18 hours ia a canoe is hard on my back.

I own a Sportspal with a Minnkota 30 trolling motor on it. I loved to fish small lakes with it. Haven't seen it in 3 years - my son borrowed it for a week and hasn't returned it yet - damn kids.

I keep my son at home so it's easier to get my stuff back.
