No one can deny that hiking in to a back country back lake and finding yourself all alone is one of the most prime experiences any trout fisherman could hope for. And sure, it would be nice to find a nice clean little campsite with a few amenities to use. And I'm sure if it was arnpriormike going in to a back lake for the first time he wouldn't be burning anything except for firewood.
This is a different situation where a remote, special lake for Mike gets defaced and ruined by partyers/lowlifes etc that have no respect for Nature. This was up close and personal, and Mike did what was necessary to make sure all those jerks wouldn't come back. They deserved it big time. Seems like it worked so far. Kudos
Cheers

I agree that a small outhouse is welcome in areas that see somewhat frequent usage. Helps keep the $hit together. If you're looking for the solitary, pristine lakes its best to put a portage or two between you and the parking lot. Seems that distance & effort weed out the lazy party folks quickly.
Admittedly, shouldering a canoe and a pack for a trek through the bush is not everyone's cup of tea. Seems you almost have to now to avoid the crap described in this thread though.
I agree with the thoughts that a few things at a campsite are welcome. I know I can always count on a grill of some sort - been way back in the Gonk and still found grills at sites that hadn't been used in years. A small pile of chopped wood is also welcome, and is something I try to leave for the next guy too. Other than that....don't like to see to much else and have packed out considerable amounts of other peoples garbage.

Re: People leaving garbage!!!!
The problem is getting worse. It used to be the lakes that were either close to the road or ones that you can drive too. The lake I'm talking about is about 7km from a maintained road. You cannot drive a truck there.
Ice fishing last month I noticed a tarp roped between two trees. On the other side of the tarp was a recycling bin with a toilet seat on top of it. This lake was 1km farther in the bush. (as a crow flies) I have to walk 45 min to get there myself in the summer.
It looked impressive!! Who needs a privacy wall (8X8 tarp) in the bush? No one's there to see you! If your friends want to watch, you should get new friends. Use some common sense here.
As for the people that like outhouses because it keeps peoples poop in one area, and there's no chance at stepping in it. If I see toilet paper on the ground behind a campsite, it means either someone pooed there, or there were girls there. Don't step there! You might get poop on your boots!
Did you know poop vanishes pretty quick in nature. Poop is biodegradable. Toilet paper doesn't last too long before it degrades too. Outhouses, porcelain toilets and recycling bins last a long time! Almost forever!
If you need outhouses, go to a provincial park.
Keep it clean!

Re: People leaving garbage!!!!
Who needs a toilet I just dig a hole and then bury it. Its simple and there is no chance of anybody stepping in it and no need for evasive structures!!! Last thing I would want to do is take a crap in a recycling bin that my friends have already shat in......
Re: People leaving garbage!!!!
Its tough digging holes in the winter though.
The thunderbox idea they use in Algonquin works. Not saying I'm going to go tromping through the bush, stepping in crap, but keeping it all on one place is slightly more sanitary. Don't like sitting over your buddies hot mess? throw some pine needles or leaves down the hole before you squat.
I get what the original poster is saying though - sucks to trek through the bush to a once-solitary spot, only to find it ransacked, litter everywhere. You won't have nice lakes for long if it continues.

Re: People leaving garbage!!!!
After all this poop talk, can I get an new Iphone that will work in the bush so I can call the MNR when I find aload of garbage and outhouses?
Re: People leaving garbage!!!!
haha....well played. They probably have bigger fish to fry (pun intended).
FYI The MNR guy out of Bancroft, Steve Lawrence, is a great person to talk to about the area and will respond to legitimate problems. I've called once about a bunch of guys fishing on a particular bridge, filling pails with whatever they managed to catch, even if it was out of season. Returned about 4 hours later to see the MNR truck there and a lot of worried faces.
You pretty much have to catch poachers / idiots in the act.
