A Bad day at a Lake we never fished before

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

They are like cockroaches here!

I went to Barhaven a little while ago and saw dozens and dozens of deer in some fields on the way in.. I thought it was a deer farm!!

What gives?

Craig
Craig it isn't a deer farm but it is A Governement Owned Fenced in property, not sure if if the deer were put in there or if they are natural. But a couple of years ago I saw a very good sized 12 pointer right along the road. It is part of Agriculture Canada.

this one can't be blamed on the MNR. there was a lot of pressure from the public and also the Lanark Landowners association.

The snow we had 2 winters ago really made a huge dent. So last years hunt was really poor all around. But I am hearing good reports, at least for now. I hunt about 1 hr from ottawa up the 148 on the quebec side. Fish there a lot too.

don't under estimate the Lanark Landowners Association. they can be very persuasive. a number of its members were charged with culling the deer herd and sparking a lot of media attention to the MNR, calling to increase hunting pressure to reduce the herd.

I wonder though if we shouldn't raise some serious questions when we see what we consider too many fish taken in an area ... why not ... we are anglers and residents of Ontario ... laws and regs change every year ... someone just said that pressure from community groups meant a change in the regs allowing more deer to be taken in a particular year ... if we see what we consider to be overfishing in a lake that in our opinion has had diminishing amounts of a particular species of fish, then why not ask the ministry if this lake should be given consideration for a change in the regs (slot limit, reduction in daily catch, etc.) ... happens every year.

The key here is "in a lake that has had diminishing fish" ... can't complain when the lake has tons of fish. I just finished reading a posting about a lake that some people said had lots of fish ... now there's no point in wetting a line ... we all know of lakes like this and much of it is due to overfishing.

Anyway my take is why not raise the question ... don't depend on the ministry to be monitoring the lake ... if we do it will be too late when the boys in TO wake up ..

They have been mentioned from time to time... but it is rare.

Besides... our key boards do not support the character set that they would understand me thinks.

This "Best Spots" in question is one "Best Spot". Just to clear this up TMH... I know what spot this is... because I was there.

Again... I can tell you that over the past 2 years this lake has been mentioned only in passing perhaps 10 times. No maps... no reports. (I used the search button!)

Should you persist insisting otherwise, I will assume that you reading comprehension has suffered in your old age and resort to drawing pictograms for you.

:P
