How low can the Ottawa River go?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

personally I have a hard time believing that the hydro companies arn't partially responsible for the low water in the Ottawa River. sure other places are low too, but the Ottawa is disproportionally low compared to everywhere else.

My 1st post reflected by another member was getting pike out of season and that was on a damn lure that takes in baitfish
I also run barbless treble hooks when going for baitfish
OK, I'm really interested in this. What baitfish hits a lure with trebles?
Thx.. and im sure your really banging your head on this one.

Well I dont really like to tell anyone about this spinner cuz of how well it works around here. But anyways.

That lure in a 7/64 oz size is amazing. Oddly enough ive had a bullhead take it last week. Perch will fly out of nowhere and zap this lure.

Thats a really nice looking spinner, great colors!
I'm still really interested in what types of baitfish you're catching with it though. Bullhead aren't baitfish, neither are Perch, unless I'm mistaken.

Oddly the bullhead did come after it once and took it the 2nd time. Perch, bluegill, sunfish all take this lure. UNFORTUNELY Smallmouth, Largemouth, and Rockbass, Pike too All love this lure. But since its a small size more baitfish come after it.

To be honest I've read the regs, and I didn't notice the Ottawa river was a different zone, but if I got called out for fishing OOS, I'd probably come back with "my bad, won't do it again".

It's irrelevant that everyone else is a reg totin' internet tough guy, show some respect, and bring a better attitude.

The water levels here are low as well. Locals are saying it's lower then it would be in late August.

The Fire Hazards have been up since the begining of April.

I've already seen the water bombers (CL 215) and attack helicopters in action! I heard couple weeks ago that there has already been over 150 fires out in the bush....It's going to be a scary year for everybody.

Great answer. I think that's what most of us are looking for.
We've had so many trolls hit this board, just looking to pick a fight. If you combine that with the "sense of humor" that reigns here... Well that makes for fun reading.

I'm no tough guy (can't afford to be with the size of me), but I am hell-bent on the regs. Maybe its my technicolor dreaming, but I expect fellow outdoorsmen (at least the FH'ers) to know the regs of where they fish/report BEFORE they venture out.

Rumour has it that the new proposed Ottawa River bridge will be completed early. Signnificant savings are projected by simply driving the cranes out onto the dry river bottom...

Water levels

Post by bassman40 »

Note to Hazard - while fishing at Petrie island area, why not stop into the Oziles store and pick up a copy of the fishing reg's to get familiar with them? they usually have a copy of the Ontario eating guide book too which is an interestying read on what, where and how much to eat from our fisheries.

As for the water levels, does anyone have a report of the levels on Mississippi recently? I plan to use the town luanch and wondered if they have the dock in and what the water level in the river is like?
I know of the rockpiles leaving the launch and heading out to the main lake need to be watched for.
Also, the uploading of any pics is appreciated from those that post them.
Theyprovide a clear reminder of howbad things are and what to watch out for. Safety being a main concern this season.
On the Fish-Canada website, there are pics of the Larry from a FC user. Just amazing how low that body of water is!

I'll agree with you in principle Eric.
I have nothing but respect for someone who reminds you
of the regs (such as RJ did  ) in case I've misread or
misinterpreted something. :? They can be confusing!!

What I DON'T have respect for is the "Quick Draw" guys on here
who seem to sit back and wait for someone to contravene the
regs or perceived 'etiquette' and then WHAM!!!....they pounce
on them and try to make them feel like a career criminal!!

I'm not gonna single anyone out here, but nothing wizzes me off
more than armchair sheriffs who take pleasure in belittling others!!

I'm certain they're trying to compensate for other shortcomings in their lives.

So please: "Don't let those haloes slip down & choke yas!!" :P :P
If you don't stand for something,
you'll fall for anything!!
