Last week, I was talking to my friend and he mentionned that his parents was looking into getting the boat operator card. He had asked if I knew of a place. So I tell him that there's a sportsmen show on the weekend and they could probably get it there. He said that his parents will probably not go.

I was there Saturday and picked up some French study material for them. Later that night, I called my friend to tell him that I had the study guides for his parents and I could drop it off and they could take the test whenever.

Yesterday my friend calls me and tells me that they ended up going Sunday and both wrote the test and passed. Both his parents are French and they only had the test in English. It turns out the proctors just translated everything for them and basically filled out the answers for them.

So they have their cards.

It would be an interesting experiment to .......

Leave a computer with internet access in a grade 3 class along with a credit card. I am sure that in just a few hours they would all have the boat operators cards in the mail.

Hey income tax was supposed to be an interim measure to help fund the war.....WW1 I believe!!!!

So the point is anyway the Gov't can screw you out of coin they'll keep it.

Why do you think Chretien wanted to legalize pot????TAXES anyone!!

Gotta get $$ some how to pay for all of these "social" programs we have in Canada...

I don't think it's making the waterways any safer. If you need it why doesn't the game warden ever ask to see it when he does a random check for licenses :x

It is a yes for me on both accounts but I think it is a good thing that needs to be enforced. The rules are simple enough so that any backwards bushman could understand and get a passing grade. It simply forces you to read the rules, if even only that one time, maybe you'll retain a bit.

This summer I experienced being taken over by two boats (I was already doing about 40mph) one on each side and a sea-doo crossed all of our paths. It was almost a very bad day for the outside boat and sea-doo rider. The fact is, it is mostly commmon sense that keeps us safe but I am sure that none of the nit-wit boaters that day ever opened up the book.

Cheers and safe boating,

Prairieboy

There's always going to be the odd IDIOT that will like to test the law such as the dude you are referring to  ......good on him!!!...6 points automatically off his license, $2000 fine, an increase in his yearly insurance premiums, towing fees, impound fees....ya gotta LOVE IT!!!!....he got off easy....he could of KILLED someone or himself!!...JACKazzes like that should have their driver's license automatically revoked for a few years :D

He passed his driver's test and WAS STOPPED by the law for his recklessness ...Hopefully we'll see the same enforcement on the waterways :D

um that's my point  . enforcement of the water laws is the key not a useless test and piece of paper.

Definitely Cash Grab.

I have a Toronto Harbour License . Getting this required in-class instruction and test; as well as on the water test, which includd with single operator, man overboard drill. I did it on a 44 ft. boat. I still have to get Operator Card.

My son is in Marine Navigation Couse at Georgian College. He knows more about marine navigation, than I will ever know and still requires the card. I suspect (don't know for sure-will check) that once he gets his Captains License that enables him to be in control of cruise ships and freighters, that he will still require an operators card to operate an 18 ft. fishing boat.

Cash Grab! Cash Grab! Cash Grab! I just cannot seem to say it enough.
