What Kanatian says

DO NOT go lighter on the line it will kill fish. 80 lb minimum. Not just for landing them quickly but also to avoid break offs. 4 - 5 mph with a heavy rod, and muskie going mach 1 is alot of shock. Also when they roll in it the thinner line will cut them up, and there teeth will also have no problems slicing through it.

When I was a newbie I though 65 would be OK. Snapped it of twice just from casting. Ya know, ya chuck your 3 oz bait as hard as you can, get a backlash, and your bait stoops dead....well the didn't stop, the line did but the bait kept going. Thas nothing compared to what happens when a muskie takes your bait on the troll.

A fish with a bait stuck in it's face will not make it.

You have gotten some great advice...take it to heart.

My 2 cents
