Sorry Ontdreaming I was out for awhile and didn't see your post. I am going to Baptiste for the first time this summer. I've done a ton of research on it. It would add alot to your drive up here. It's about 3 hours from the border.
Both Charleston and Baptiste are real gems. Two of the most scenic lakes in southern Ontario. Both are fair sized lakes. Charleston is a little bigger, more shoreline and islands but Baptiste is connected to two other lakes. Charleston is alot deeper. Baptiste has more variety. Both lakes have alot of options nearby.
Last year on Charleston my fishing went like this. Good early in the season, slowed up a bit by late July. Then in late August it really picked up. September was great. I did better with largemouth early, smallies in September.

Senkos/Dinger/Tikis/Bamboo
Yum dingers are effective I like the Ozark Smoke.....
If anyones interested I can get senk obaits pretty cheap from a contact I know i nthe states, they are hand poured and I'd part with 25 per pkg..
I can get some cool colours too... Im not gonna give up my contact so dont ask I bought several colours already.. Im not promising anything but I'll see waht I can do. PM if interested.
Specifics on the baits are:
Look like senkos, exact same looking, theyre not salted, a little over 5 inches, and i got pics of some of the colours

Thanks gman... I have a little experience with charleston so this year it will charleston. But from my research of elephant, baptiste, and benior it does seem like an interesting system. Buying and bringing a boat up this year so I may just have to go over to Baptiste for a day. Is there a public boat launch?

Reaction
How about Sweet Potato Pie? Don't laugh, when things are real slow this bait has produced some big "Reaction" bites.

There's so much to say...
First of all these lures are meant to be used in water with good visibility, they won't work as well in muddy water. Also I think it's much easier to feel the fish if you follow the bait down with your rod tip starting high and your finger on the line, 90% of the time you'll feel the slightest tick that you would probably ignore it. Another thing I do to detect strikes is making fairly short casts. Even in clear water you don't need to cast more than 10-15 yards from the boat, having too much line out makes it hard to let it fall freely and still keep semi-tension on the line. Also, I prefer to use spinning gear with mono, or p-line.
It seems the key to having maximum success (I say maximum because they'll always produce something) with these baits is to have the right colour on for the given day, and fish them at the right speed. At the start of the season all I was using was Watermelon and Red Shad and having great success but towards the fall they slowed down dramatically and had great success with pearl/baby bass and pumkin. You hear a lot of "fish them sooo slow" most days you'll get a bite before it hits bottom. On days like that I'll let it fall to bottom and once it does I'll reel in and cast somewhere else keeping my casts about 15 feet apart in clear water. One trait waveworm has that I just really discovered at the end of the season is if you rig the waveworms texas but weightless you can work them like a Sluggo, but when you pause it it'll still fall with the wacky motion
I realized that I've rambled on for a bit now so only one more thing, Waveworms have the Tiki and Bamboo sticks, Bamboo's are thicker and sink a bit faster, I prefer these when the fish are a bit deeper.
Good Luck!!

I picked up a bag of Mulberry (red/blue swirl) and Baby Bass (Green/Pearl swirl) from BPS down here. They are having a "Spring" sale down here. Paid 2.29 Tiki-Stikcs and also picked up two sweet spinning combos (IM8 rod with 10BB real) for 39.99 each Can not beat that.
It does not seem like they have the same Spring sale for in each store and the sale items can not be bought on internet.
