Outdoors Card

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Licence

Post by Legend »

:) While at the fishing show, a buddy pointed out to me that kids under 18 have to be in the presence of a licenced adult to fish... What they did have on hand is a free licence for kids under 18 to fish without a licenced adult.

To validate it, they have some conditions on the back that I thought were pretty cool.

i.e. Pick up your garbage.
Handle fish with care.
Only kill fish you are going to eat... etc.

Not bad for a government office. :D

OUTDOORS CARDS

Post by baitcaster »

Thought I would throw in my 2 cents to clarify how the license system works.
Any licenses sold by a store have to be submitted to MNR before the 20th of the next month. So, if you purchase your license on Feb. 1st it may not get to MNR until March 20th and then they have to do their magic before you receive your outdoors card in the mail. However if you buy your license on the 30th of the month and the issuer submits the licenses on the 1st of the next month you could have your card in a couple of weeks.
You know what they say - timing is everything!
I hope some of you will continue to buy your licenses from retailers - the 25 cents we make could keep us in business!

I believe those folks under 18 and over 65 have to follow "Conservation" limits. If they wish to keep the Sportfishing limit you must buy a licence.
When the Outdoorscard system came into being I was 17, thus I had one year grace, but again I had to follow Conservation limits.

RRC here is the section from the current MNR Regs:

Who does NOT need to purchase a Fishing
Licence?
1. Residents of Canada who are under 18 years of age or 65
years of age or older, and are in possession of their Birth
Certificate.
2. Disabled Canadian residents, if they are eligible for and in
possession of EITHER:
• a Canadian National Institute for the Blind National
Identity Card; OR
• an Ontario Ministry of Transportation disabled person
parking permit.

Those who qualify to fish without purchasing a fishing
licence as indicated above, may fish with the same catch
and possession limits as holders of a Resident Sport Fishing
Licence tag. Additionally, they have the same responsibilities
as those who have purchased an Outdoors Card and fishing
licence tag and must abide by all regulations.
