Explain again how you got that hook out (I'm mentally preparing myself for one, I'm due). You pushed it through until the barb was out, then cut the tip, then pulled it back?

Yes, this is it exactly. I pushed the point through past the barb, cut the hook below the barb then pulled back out the other side. It actually wasn't that hard to push the point out.
