I am so P.O. I could just throttle someone

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

YES, gladly... I bought my boat at DKDODS. You can visit them at www.dkdods.com. I would suggest you speak with Brian in sales, or Ed in service. Doug, the owner is nice to talk with as well.

Though the boat had a good list of items, if you look at it, they are all minor. Agreed, 100% they should not have been there, but I'm not perfect in my job/life, so I do not expect them to be either. I do expect them to take care of the problems when they arise quickly and professionally.

I can say that to date, the entire experience of buying at DKDODS was excellent. Way above average. The team there set the bar high for sure, and I believe Ed will not disappoint me when it comes to my service this week.

I could not help but comment on this thread. As some background info, I have recently moved here from Calgary, prior to that Vancouver, prior to that prince george, all different sized cities, all varities of fishing. And I was on discussion boards like this in all of the areas. I don't think I have EVER seen a positive post about service from someone who shelled out massive money on a boat, now I understand that human nature leads us to complain more than say something positive  , but if this is happening again, and again, and again, you should post the culprits, this is supposed to be a free market system, if their product stinks, they should go out of business, if their service stinks, same thing...now I also believe in fairness, give them a chance, speak to the manager, don't flame them without cause, but I will tell you this, if I spent 30k on a boat and it has one, yes one thing wrong with it, I would not be impressed, how come I buy a 15k honda civic and there not one thing wrong with it?

my 2 cents

You'll find lots of reputable supplies and dealers referenced on Fish-Hawk. In fact, you just did... (look one post up).

Seriously, there have been quite a few threads on this forum that have referenced outstanding customer service. I could name at least three local area bait & tackle shops and two or three marinas that have been called out for their excellent service.

Nice to know some folk spend upwards of $300k on a watch that doesn't keep time!
I am assuming you meant a 3,000 dollar watch and not a 300,000$ watch.
Rolexes are mechanical watches. Mechanical watches no matter how much you pay are not accurate and will gain or lose time.

If you want accurate get a digital timex.

There are several excellent mechanics in the area.

Most work for dealers:
Lorne Sugrue at Orleans Boat World
Andre Lalonde at Andre Lalonde Marine in Wendover
mikemicropterus - independant

They way to get good service is to treat the service people like you want to be treated.

Everyone wnats their boat fixed asap. And in a perfect world everything would be fixed once (if it even needed to be fixed.)

At this time of the year the weekend sailors are getting their boats out and finding things they need to take care of. They go to closest marine dealer and expect car repair type service. Ain't gonna happen especially if parts are required for a 1993 evinrude/johnson.mercury whatever.

Thanks Norm but you got the order wrong

My Gambler had no issue when I bought it. No dealer in Canada but that will change soon

And that guy works for ML-S Small Ebngine Repair, I hear the owner is a real picky when it comes to service and a real knob  to work for, won't give his mechanic a day to go fishing.

There are some good shops I have heard but you need to take the mechanic out to lunch sometime and get to know him/her 8)

I find it very hard to find a marina with decent service as well.
Couple years a go I took my boat to get a top put on it so i can fish in crappy weather and keep sun off.

2k later the top is on .....
well sloppiest job i have ever seen every place they drilled a hole in the aluminum to mount the top has a long scratch in the paint indicating they didnt use a punch
second they put some snaps for front cover under winshield to hold bow cover in place.
Well first time i pull off the tarp up come the snaps.
Turns out I had some rotten wood.
Im not sayin it's thier falt about the wood but there is no way possible to tigten the snap so obviously just screwed it flush and didn't care.
Funny thing is if they called me I woulda got them to fix my wood.
I have 2 more but now I'm P.Oed again 2...lol

Bottom line is unless it's major I wouldn't take it to a marina/dealer to do anything.
I'm hopeing one day there may be a marina prove me wrong but to date they are a joke at least in the ottawa area.

Hookup, you're right, sorry, I should have researched more on this site before commenting, it was just a trend I was noticing no matter where I moved.

THIS IS GOSPEL! I could not say it better so I will not try...

If you do this, honestly, and do not get treated well, then go else where cause you have found a crappy place... and they definitely do exist.

No issues at all man, I'd wager there are MORE crappy places than good ones...

And everyone has a bad day and needs to go off. :) There was a thread back awhile ago about a fishing tackle provider/store/mfg or something, anyhow, the original post was when the fellow as pee pee and hot.. (we all get that way)... and over time you can see how the amazing customer service changed his perspective and at the same time generated some good publicity for the store/owner/etc...

I always save my money and grief when it comes to my boat or truck for all that matters and fix it myself that way I know its done right and the price is right. Can't say I enjoy doing it but it works for me. Just my 2-cents on the servicing issue.

My dad, has his boat docked all summer long at Lens Cove. They keep his boat in top shape. Once while we were away some rode their boat into the side of his and dented up and scraped the side up. They fixed it no problem, probably insurance but they did it no Questions asked, right away and done right!

Just closing the loop... I picked up my boat Friday at 3pm as requested... and it was ready.. Several of the other minor items were addressed, some were not... however the promise was that the 20hr would be done and it was...

We discussed the livewell system and booked a week to come in to get it taken care of because it requires a few hours of tear-down to get to the pumps and plumbing.

Service at DKDODS did not let me down! Fantastic.

Hookup,

You keep saying how they didn't let you down and how great they are.....well....you picked up your boat with issues that you weren't happy about....now you've had it back in and it's still not fixed....now you have it booked to go back in at a later date.....to fix standard equipment on your NEW boat.....I'd hardly call that "great"....if I spent $30,000 on a boat....like hell I'd be having to take it in 2 or 3 times to get it the way it should have been when I first picked it up...well I'd be forced to I guess....but I wouldn't be praising them!
