Ottawa River Monster - is this legitimate?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

we did found a 6 footer and i saw other 6 footer in the past here on the ottawa and the gatineay river..off my own eyes.

i got a body that dive and saw a couple time a sturgeon in the 10 ffot long in the o.r to...and they saw it a couple time at the same place. while diving.

suposely true.

i dont think they any prob having a 100 pound sturgeon in this river here in ottawa or the gatineau river.

i would think more the gatineau river for monster..or the ottawa river in the verendry park.

here in the ottawa river there some commercial fishermans that target them so this could be hard on the species i would think.

Apparently it has been caught in Saskatchewan, Ontario etc.....

Seeing as its that size and the people in the pic seem to be North Americans..my assumption is Frasier River.

Now, I would not dismiss parts of Russia either.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beluga_sturgeon

But it is also interesting to note that the WWF (World Wildlife Federation) has succeeded in having sturgeon fishing in Russia made illegal.

The Beluga being prized for its roe. Some get 19ft!!!!
It's a white sturgeon. The beluga sturgeon looks completely different and isn't found anywhere in North America.
Thanks Eli. I know it obviously is not a Beluga and yes they are found in the Caspian and Adriatic seas.....not here in North America.

Do we only have the white sturgeon here or are there other types?

As others have mentioned, that sturgeon has been caught in so many bodies of water it must have eight passports.

Just like that big pike, also mentioned here.

Must be just about time to resurrect the "man-killing" kodiak bear from Alaska, and the "Australian" python on the electric fence..........

In BC there's the white and green sturgeon. East of BC it's only lake sturgeon and what little remains of the atlantic sturgeon population in the gulf of the St. Lawrence.
I'm glad they made them C&R only all across Ontario. They are a magnificent fish.

Yah definitely from British Columbia! Fraser River has some monsters like 20 ft long :P

We should protect these fiercely! They are amazing fish! The true giants of Canadian waters.

The Sturgeon we have here are diff.

When I was in the Senneterre area, on Lac Parent, just north by maybe 20 mins, we were boating and there were two older first nations men, netting them and had a boat full of sturgeon! All about 3-4 ft long, not huge at all, but still, if they do that everyday, I wonder how the population will survive. It's kept for meat and roe I believe. Although they do have the right to do it I guess, they must have had a commercial licence since there was no first nations reservation on that lake as far as I know.

They are beautifully ugly fish!

They are such an ancient species! The Gar Pike is another ancient species I believe.

We should protect them!

I hope the fish in the picture is still okay today, that's an amazing fish.

Take Care!
