Bass Pro Shops

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Le barons' not that bad!

Post by Lief »

You know if your around Ottawa like me Lebarons is not bad for tackle and reels etc.
I know it doesnt have the the flash of a BPS which has everything from trout hooks to RV's.
But while comparison shopping around for a saltwater reel last fall... you guessed it LeBarons beat 'em by about seven bucks and thats not counting the drive I didnt make. Although I admit I do buy bulk line online from BPS.
But yeah lets keep the dollar at home, I always like to make at least one impulse buy at whatever local tackle shop wherever I am, between that and the beer store I feel I'm supporting the local economy
Cheers!

I live in the GTA and make frequent stops at BPS. It is a great store if you are American, but I find they really lack a lot of Ontario specific fishing lures. Its hard to find a lot of stuff there, but you can find gems every once in a while. If you want the flash of a big shiny store then this is the place, but if you are looking for specific tackle, go to you local bait shops out in Ottawa. For Marine accessories they seem to have it covered but thats about it.

Stick to your locals and you will be much happier and will be keeping the market going.

As for price, they are not cheaper then anywhere else unless there is a sale.

Thanks,

Mike

Was on the phone with Cabelas over the weekend. Asked about the montreal store. They said maybe next year or the year after or the year after. In other words don't hold your breath. They recently bought out the S.I.R mail order stores and are focusing on them.

I was at the BPS in Toronto 2 weeks ago. I was all excited, , my first time in a BPS. But in the end I spent a whole of $8 (two packs of drop shot hooks). They do have all sizes and all colors, but for the most part I agree you can find what they sold at Can Tire, just might have to go to a few locations to find that one color or size.

What does that say?

Ohh, I did spend a hour watching the fish in the big aquarium though, fun times.

Another option for the bigger ticket items (more than $100.00) is Ebay. I have beat out everyone and every other place with Ebay on my larger purchases. For example, a reel at a local shop would have been $295.00 after tax. I received it at my door for $175.00 including taxes and shipping, still in the box, unopened with all paperwork. I have bought 3 reels on ebay and have saved hundreds of dollars with this resource.
