Trout opener on April 28th, any suggestions where to

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I have to say the fight is not a strong fight..but they will run you up and down the shore line and across the fast moving current and make you fall on your @$$ and get your chest wader full of water and drag you down the river praying for the cold water to stop numbing your %#@*& and be able to bring the stupid fish in without snapping your line and loosing this fish. Not that this has ever happened to me  ...But all the fish I have caught have all put up long fights and really like to make you work the rod and line.

Just put on 40lbs trilene and you can catch those fishermen that try to squeeze you from your spot

Should 8lbs test do it, or should I got with 10lbs line?

You need to be careful with the presentation and it also depends on the clarity of the water...We always used roe sacks, corn or sponge on an invisible 6-8lbs test line.

There's an honourable way to catch trout that doesn't involve flyfishing????

I will be on the Ganny opening weekend. I camp with a small gang at the Lion's park below the damn but fish way above the damn.

The stretch from the Lion's park all the way to the month of the river has a bunch of good holes but also has a lot of people. Moving up stream gets you away from the crowd a bit but you do need to cover some ground first.

Chest waders, fishing vest, 13 foot float rod and center pin reel is the way I tackle them. 6-8 lb main line with a 2-4 lb leader. It all depends on how stained the water is. SUper clear it is 2 lb and stained it is 4 lb. Small floats , small round (not the ones with the ears as they cause line twist) and egg hooks (#10 -#14). Bait ranges from yarn, to fresh roe, to sticky roe, to fake roe or even flies. I should tie some up this weekend I guess.

Some fish can take you for a good run, others like to catch some area and some other simply just dog it and hide in the wood or under cut banks.

Fun fishing and it does allow you to enjoy some pop will at it (unlike when in a boat). :)

Wow now thats info, well gues my plan is this:

pre-make 6-8 leaders with Foloclear 4lbs-6lbs test-line

I got 2 rods so I'll set one up with a bobber and the other for drifting, so I'll keep one in a car and switch between 'em

Today I'm off to bait shop, pick up few more hooks, weights, sponge, floaters  , and some artificial red worms and few other critters

I'll set my 8 1/2 foot rod with a bobber, and my new 7 foot spinning rod for drift and bottom bouncing
