Hello All,
Happened to be checking out the site and decided to look at my original thread. Hmmm, something looks different - all of the threads started yesterday, when in actual fact, the message was posted last week, as were the majority of responses. (I seem to think RJ was the first to respond, and a good response from Wolfe too, although I see someone has deleted all of those.) I would of loved to see the flames from some of the "respectable" fisherman on this site, that feel that releasing the name of a lake, river, or stream is equal to death of a fishery. Gimme a break. Actually, I'm pretty careful about what I disclose - many of my smaller bass lakes will forever remain unnamed, because, well, I like to keep them to myself. In this case, if anglers have never heard of the Rideau River producing fish, nor that a fallen tree is capable of producing bass, well, fishing isn't really your sport. In my photo you can see about a foot and a half of a tree on shore. Let me share something with you - I was fishing the same stretch today. I probably fished 20 or so trees. I'll also tell you something else - I got one decent smallie (on a topwater) and a couple of dinks for 4 hours of effort. So, I fail to see how any and all "meateaters" will flood the Rideau to catch these fish. Last time I looked, fishing takes a bit of skill. I count myself as a fairly skillful angler. Well, one decent fish is pretty crap in my books, so good luck to all you fish rapists in going and finding them.
Fishing is a sport that is built on techniques. We all know that largies love to hang out under docks and trees. Well, surprise surprise, there's a whole whack of them on every lake and river in Ottawa. No secret there.
A few bad apples certainly make me want to never post reports on here - reason being is, I know that I am a conservation-minded angler, I keep the odd fish for dinner, and I like to think that I teach the sport of angling somewhat to the readership. I don't need to come on here and get my name smeared. Just ain't cool in my mind...
So, for all you that had a problem - sorry I spoiled the surprise that their actually is some bass on the Rideau. I'm also sorry that I let it slip that bass can be caught under trees. I'm just glad that I wasn't the one to let the cat out of the bag that Mississippi supports a decent whack of bass and walleye, or that the Ottawa has a musky or two to be found...
Thanks for sharing your thoughts...
Good Fishing,
Justin
