eatin fish

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

:D :D :D :D :D

In years past, everybody knew you couldn't beat a big old platter of perch and a pitcher from the "Erie Beach".....used to go weekly....those were the days.

Can't stand anything out of a can....tastes too much like fish(to coin a phrase)

I really enjoy pike....if you know someone who can fillet them right(lucky me)...and of course walleye.

Oh yeah....Markus, about your spelling....when FFF gets his new glasses, maybe he'll lend you his old magnifying glass

Did somebody say Erie Beach?!

Next time you want a platter of perch from Port Dover, skip the Erie beach and drive up to the Sims residence. We're right on Main St and best of all the fish is free (you just gotta help me catch it)!

On any given day FFF I get turned off the fishy tasting fish myself. You're right about whites, they are great, and I think it's because of how mild and light they are. It's nice to know you're eating healthy when you're eating fish and, there are so many flavours to choose from. From sockeye to whites to char to pike, it's all good mood food.

You'r right about the many flavours of fish Bunk, when my kids were little their favourite flavour was ketchup
ET up in Wiarton our main fish is Rainbow or Chinook, this summer one of the local guys cooked a feed of fresh stuffed white fish on the dock, most had never eaten white fish. Now they are planning to still fish and jig for whities in the early spring!

Eating Fish

Post by Tony G. »

I just love eating fish and not just the freshwater critters some of the saltwater varities are pretty tasty as well.
My all time fav is Bass both LM and SM as a matter of fact this coming Fr.both my wive and I will be sitting down to great dish of baked LM with homefries and salad. Marcus don't worry I buy them in a grocery store :)
Next in line would be Lancaster Perch rolls some of the finest eating at least for me, however I must admit the secret sauce plays a large part.
Bullheads, Panfish etc. etc. are great and the best part is their plentiful
and considered a renewable resource.

Good Fishing and Good Eating

g unis, do yourself a favour: find a good Japanese restaurant and order some Unagi (eel) kabayaki (the sauce it is grilled with). Alternatively, you should be able to find some pre-made and frozen in an asian food market.

Served warm, it will almost melt in your mouth due to it's high fat content. It's like the fish equivalent to foie gras. Just don't eat too much -- the stuff's crazy high in cholesterol.

:) Perch are excellent. I need to check out how Rotten Ronnie filets them in this months OOD magazine. I somehow turn a 1 lb perch into a 50g filet.

As for Eel, they are delish. But here's a tip for you. kill the damn things before you put them in the freezer! They can survive for months seemingly frozen solid... (My mother found that one out  )

Without question I'd take crappie over perch.
Sprinkle on lots of lemon pepper, add some butter, wrap in tinfoil and set on the woodstove at the shack for about 3 min per side.

We just can't seem to catch them this year. I guess the 43+ walleye we have caught so far make up for our lack of crappie though.
