At the last moment decided to hit the Rideau instead of the Ottawa - maybe that was a mistake but it looks like it was tough there too. Trolled, cast, deep, shallow - no Muskie. 1 small pike for me and 2 nice bass from Clam Man both around 3lb on a top raider!!!!!! Anyway we thought we would give 1 last try by the bridge when we see this guy struggling with a big fish on. As we get closer he loses it and says it was a big Muskie - groan.
Now for the humiliating part - this guy is on 4lb line, 1/8th jig and a small craw plastic, he's fishing for eyes. A few minutes later hes ' on again and it's obvious he needs help - we motor over and net a 39"er for him, if that wasn't enough, 5 minutes later and we have to go back again to net a 42"+. To top it all, he groaned saying he'd had enough as he'd only caught a few very small eyes so he packed up and went home.
So, for those of you going to the Muskie hunt, try rigging some jigs on a leader and fish plastics as if you were after eyes!!!!! It just goes to show that the 100s of dollars of Muskie stuff isn't enough, mind you the net did come in handy even if it wasn't for our fish.
