Crown Land Island Camping and Lake Trout Mission

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Crown Land Island Camping and Lake Trout Mission

Post by John Zach »

Hi All,

Hope everyone’s having a good summer so far. A buddy and myself are hoping to get out camping with my new boat, and we’re hoping to find a lake with plenty of crown land islands to choose from to camp on. We’re also hoping to go after Lakers as neither of us has ever caught a laker. Any suggestions from anyone who has ever attempted similar camping adventures? It’ll be my first time not set up on a designated camp site and I’m worried that it’ll be hard to find a good spot.

Thanks and tight lines

if you really want to get into Lakers I would suggest Charleston lake provincial park. They have 10 back country campsites that while not crown land will still provide you with what you're looking for on a beautiful lake with great Laker fishing along with excellent Smallmouth opportunities. Plus they all offer enclosed privys.

See https://www.northfrontenacparklands.com which has remote camping and a wilderness experience, with boat in sites and many lakes to choose from. Not 100% crown land but inexpensive camping and nice lakes. Crotch for example (no lakers) but good bass and walleye. A couple lakes Fortune and Round Schooner have lakers. Round schooner is open all year for lakers as they are stocked there.

Good luck

Sharbot is mostly crown land and is known as the lake of one hundred islands. In theory you could camp on the island south of Green island, but can't comment on the terrain. I was there recently and there are lakers in the western half of the lake. Lots of marks in the main section just out from the boat launch and around the bay North West from Green Island.

I'm with Smitty though, if you are going after your first lake trout Charleston is a better choice.

Island camping on Crown Land while chasing your first lake trout is an unforgettable adventure. With a little research and preparation, you’ll not only enjoy breathtaking wilderness but may also land your very first Laker. Choose the right lake, pack smart, and be ready for nature’s surprises. Tight lines and happy camping!
