Best Lures for Spring Bass Fishing?

Post by photurner69 »

Spring is just around the corner, and I’m gearing up for some bass fishing! What are your go-to lures for this time of year? Do you have any specific techniques that work best when the water is still a bit cold?

Spring bass fishing can be really productive as bass become more active with warming water temperatures.

Just remember to check your local fishing regulations as many areas bass season is not open in the Spring.

I fished the early season on the St Lawrence last year. It closes May 10. Ned rigs and small tubes were the ticket.

I fish the c&r season in Zone 20 every spring. Fish are lethargic in the cold water...slow moving finesse baits are best. Ned Rigs and drop shot in Goby colours produce best. Scent helps too...Berkeley Maxscent plastics work great...try the Flat Worm on a drop shot.

For spring bass fishing, I always start with a slow-moving soft plastic like a Senko or a shaky head worm. The colder water slows down the fish, so a finesse approach usually works best. Try fishing along the shallow flats near drop-offs or structures where bass might be warming up. Also, don't forget a crankbait or jerkbait for those slightly warmer days when the bass are more active. A good strategy is to experiment with different retrieval speeds to see what they prefer that day. Good luck, and hope you catch some big ones!
