A friend and I are interested in trout fishing and camping around the calabogie area, but we're total newbies with regards to the camping laws.
Is it okay to camp on anything that is labelled "crown land"? I heard that some places around the calabogie lakes areas require a permit - is this true?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Calabogie camping - permits required?

I believe that In Renfrew county it is free but once you hit North Frontenac there are charges for camp sites and road access.

Most crown land in the lanark highlands is 100% free to use.
The problem is its not very well marked out where you can go and what is crown land.
If you can find a spot of crown land go for it.

Thanks for the insight! Just wondering, how does parking work? Is it legal to just park somewhere off the road?

I would not park on the side of the road. As long as you are off the shoulder of the road thow u should be fine

Use the link on this page to get to the atlas. It's a very useful tool when looking to play on crown land. In my experience finding a suitable site can be time consuming as people tend to set up tents for the summer on the prime spots.

Money can't buy you happiness but it can buy you fishing gear and that's kinda the same thing.

You can park right at your site on the crown land sites in that area for the most part (I have a truck though so if you only have a car might be a different storey). If you can't drive all the way in some of the spots have clearings near by for parking. Get out there, explore, and have fun. Once I found out about crown land about 10 years ago I haven't looked back.

Thanks for the replies everyone! We ended up camping on one of the more easily accessible lakes in the area. We had no problems, but the fishing was less than spectucular (skunked for trout both days). The view however, was absolutely breathtaking!
